Westfield Local Heroes is a recognition and awards program that shines the spotlight on individuals in Australia and New Zealand who make a positive impact to their local community or environment.

Rose Darling, Chairperson of Community Help and Togetherness (CHATS) was a finalist in the 2024 West Lakes Westfield Local Heroes award. Rose has worked tirelessly for CHATS and was a finalist for driving positive change in our local Port Adelaide area. CHATS was awarded with a $5,000 grant as part of this award.

We congratulate finalist Hannah Darling for her contribution to the Grange Surf Life Saving Club and winner, Local Hero Kellie Finlayson for her work with the Jodi Lee Foundation.

Neil is a regular at the CHATS Friday breakfast. Neil is a diabetic, but finds the weekly breakfast no obstacle to providing him with a breakfast to suit that suits his dietary needs. Neil's positive outlook shines in this short Oz Harvest video.

Neighbour to CHATS and local disability advocate, Shane Hryhorec, visited us in October and featured our weekly breakfast on his Facebook page.

In this video, you can see the regular Friday hot breakfast, the fresh produce, including bread, fruit and vegetables.

Shane shows how CHATS is a welcoming space for those in the community who might be going through tough times or could use some extra care. The video shows how the breakfast isn't only important for nutrition, but for making friends and socialising.

In June 2024 our weekly breakfast featured as a Ray of Sunshine on Channel 7 News. We were delighted that Channel 7 presenter Gertie Spurling shone a light on our charity work.

The segment showed members of our community enjoying the CHATs weekly Friday breakfast. It also showed the fresh produce and clothing available to locals who are doing it tough.
